An Overview of Kenya’s New Constitution

An Overview of Kenya’s New Constitution

The promulgation of The Constitution of Kenya was on 27th August, 2010 under Gazette supplement No.55.

When looking at the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, we have to ask, why have a Constitutional Document?

What is a Constitution?

Constitution” is a set of basic laws or principles for a country that describes the rights and duties of its citizens and the way in which it is governed.”

We have compiled and produced this book in response to the need for Kenyans to know about the New Constitution which was promulgated on 27th August, 2010. Since “Ignorance is no excuse in law”, the publishers found it necessary to produce the book in a simplified format in order to give the reader an insight into what is provided in the New Constitution.

The publishers want to emphasize that the book is a condensed version of the New Kenya Constitution and is not intended to replace the official publication of the New Constitution. You will still need to look at the original document for a complete and comprehensive understanding of the new Constitution.

The book is intended to make it easier for the reader to pinpoint the parts which affect him most on a day to day basis, with greater emphasis being given to The Bill of Rights.

It is recommended to be read by all.
